Objective: Learning the fundamentals of solid defensive pistol handling is the basis for growth skills competency. The class will concentrate on the skills everyone needs to master to draw and shoot a handgun with confidence in pressure situations.
Essentials: These are the ESSENTIALS needed to effectively use your handgun.
Emphasis: We will concentrate on your physical contact with your gun: Drawing from a holster, proper grip, trigger control and body position while deploying your handgun effectively. You will learn proper “from the holster drawing” techniques, how to put your gun quickly on target, action reloading and situation awareness.
This class is where it all starts and will progress at the rate of the students attending. You will be a better defensive pistol shooter when you leave. You will also have the Essentials you will need to further practice correctly on your own.
What you will need:
- Defensive pistol; semi-auto or revolver (center-fire only)
- Ammunition; 300+ rounds recommended for both sessions
- Holster; belt-mounted; hard-sided or leather only, strong side. Shoulder holsters, pocket holsters, collapsible holsters and appendix carry prohibited.
- Semi-auto; at least 2 magazines, 4 is better
- Revolver; speed loaders or moon-clips
- Belt mounted magazine or speed loader holders
- Eye and ear protection
This course is designed for introductory training and newer shooters. More experienced shooters are welcome and will learn some valuable skills and insights as well.
Location: This class will take place at the Pistol Pit in the Lower Range.
PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT the class that is required by the State of Michigan to obtain a Concealed Pistol License.

A nonrefundable deposit of $50 is required to attend each class. The total due at class for Members is $10, and Non-Members is $25.
